    Book Review: Miracle on Voodoo Mountain by Megan Boudreaux

      Alright, have any of you read Kisses from Katie by Katie Davis?  If you haven’t, you need to read it, cry, cheer, and be inspired by how God is using Katie and Amazima Ministries.  I read it several years ago and I clearly remember the strong urge I felt to drop everything and move to Uganda myself and pray God use me the way He was using Katie to touch the hearts and lives of children in Southern Uganda.  (That didn’t end up happening, by the way… I think just about everyone who reads her book feels the way I did.) Miracle on Voodoo Mountain ignites the same ‘I…

    Words to Dream On {Books Worth Reading Review}

    I am always on the look out for meaningful, beautiful books to read at bedtime.  We are at a stage in our lives now where I will often trade off with my husband and we will try to each spend a little time with each child separately.  This means we sometimes read three different books after our family read-aloud. My daughter and I absolutely loved Words to Dream On by Diane Stortz.  At first glance, you might think it is a book for very young children, but, even at nine, Audrey really enjoyed having this read to her.  I would say this book would work for children age 3-8 or…

    Living Hands Free {thoughts on striving to live unplugged and a review of Hands Free Life}

      It’s been nearly a decade since we tossed our TV for good.  Wow, that makes me feel old.  I still remember the slow progression of that honking, massive TV from center stage in the living room to the basement to the basement closet to being given away.  We’ve never looked back.  Hands-down the best decision we’ve every made. Simply tossing the TV started us on a journey we never set out for ourselves.  A journey that took this TV-loving (hey I was going to make a big-wig career as a TV producer and had the diploma to prove it) to a striving-to-be ‘unplugged‘, TV-free Mama.  And, you know, TV free…

    A review of The Story for Kids

    The Story for Kids, in its simplest form, is a bible story book for ‘big kids’.  This edition is written for the target age of 9-12 but we easily read it aloud with our six and eight year old children. I was actually really excited to review this book, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to my expectations.  I was hoping for a real ‘living book’ of bible accounts.  I was hoping that, since it was called “The Story for Kids” and was aimed at older children, it would read like a really great book. But, I was disappointed with the writing and quality of this book, to be completely…

    Living Book Review – Patriots, Redcoats and Spies

    Our family was excited to review this historical fiction novel about the American Revolution.  Patriots, Redcoats, and Spies is part of the American Revolutionary War Adventures by Robert J. Skead with Robert A. Skead. We read this together with all three children (a boy-age 9, a girl-age 8, and a boy-age 6).  Reading together is something we commonly do,  so we naturally read together, although I would say this book was most suited to our 9-year-old son. From the back cover: “When Revolutionary War Patriot Lamberton Clark is shot by British soldiers while on a mission for the Continental Army, he has only two hopes of getting the secret message…

    10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know – a review and a little chat about growing up…

    I was excited to read and review 10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know by Kari Kampakis.  This started off as a simple review and then I quickly realized how passionate I was about this topic and decided to share my heart more openly in this post. In a way-too-fast culture, we need (now more than ever) to equip our teen girls with the sword of God’s truth. Lies are flying at them from all angles: their peers, the media, idols, “role models”, and even family members.  Kari graciously counters lies with truth in a powerful, relevant tone that relates well to girls and Moms alike.  With the Word of God…

    Knowing My God – Jesus Shows Me (Graham Blanchard Book Review!)

    I was excited to have the opportunity to read and review the brand new series from Graham Blanchard – Knowing My God.  I received a copy of Jesus Shows Me in the mail a few weeks ago, so here is my review! Before receiving this beautiful book, I hadn’t heard of Graham Blanchard.  Now that I’ve spent time reading their books and checking out their website, I love who they are and what they stand for.  They are a Christ-centered publishing house committed to printing books that help parents and children draw closer to God.  Their aim is to help parents communicate God’s truths to children in an engaging and authentic…
